Gaming Welcomes NFTs: How Long Will the Trend Last?
There is a lot of excitement about the latest blockchain-based Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), but this new phenomenon also brings with it a lot of uncertainty. NFTs have been under the radar until recently, so how can we tell if they’re the next big thing or a passing fad? When one of the richest people in the world, the CEO – or technoking – of Tesla and SpaceX tweets about his thoughts on selling an NFT and then decides against it, the confusion only increases. Are NFTs here to stay, or are they destined to die a quick death once the hype dies down?
Whatever the truth, it’s undeniable that NFTs are everywhere right now and have penetrated industries like art, gaming, social media, podcasting, real estate, digital collectibles, and esports. The question is whether this is a new market, a fad, or a financial novelty that regulators will soon recognize. The answer remains unclear.
Gaming has embraced NFTs, which offer players a number of unique abilities. Previously, purchasing in-game items did not allow for their direct ownership, as the company that owns the game had the authority to ban the account, resulting in the loss of the items associated with it. NFTs provide the ability to convert these items into tradable goods, effectively granting ownership rights to their owners. In addition, companies are given the opportunity to create games based on these tokens, for example by selling in-game land that would translate into NFTs.
Give power back to gamers
Digital ecosystems thrive on the use of blockchain technology, which enables the buying, selling, exchanging and earning of tokens on decentralized exchanges. These opportunities will be available in the game universe.
There has been a significant influx of new players into the gaming universe. In general, blockchain-based games offer new earning opportunities for players looking to monetize their skills. The biggest challenge until recently was the comparatively rudimentary functionality.
Game developers have traditionally been the ones who dictated the nature and flow of the titles they released. Some companies have provided developer tools for creating arcade games and custom missions in their honor.
